Dr. Kristen Barnes
Dr. Barnes grew up as a part of the Oldham county community, starting as a Goshen Gator, and later a University of Louisville Cardinal, where she earned degrees in Biology and Psychology. She graduated from St. George’s School of Veterinary Medicine in 2014. She has been lucky to love and care for a number of rescue dogs and bunnies through the years, and adopted her first visually impaired kitten while in vet school, with a second abandoned cat joining the family a few years later. Dr. Barnes has volunteered with World Vets, providing care for dogs, cats, and carriage horses in underserved countries including Nicaragua, and enjoys traveling, reading, and relaxing with family and friends. She is dedicated to caring for your beloved pets as if they are her own, with special interests in preventative wellness, senior pet care, and hospice and palliative care. She is grateful to be a part of the Goshen Animal Clinic family!
Dr. Juston Schmidtke
Dr. Schmidtke is a graduate of Auburn University- College of Veterinary Medicine. He enjoys all aspects of veterinary science, practice and surgery, including orthopedics and soft tissue. His first experience with the pet care industry came as kennel employee at age 14 and he grew to love the field of veterinary medicine; he has been in practice now for 11 years as a mixed animal veterinarian. Dr. Schmidtke moved to the Louisville area in 2016 with his two cats, two dogs, and four rabbits. Dr. Schmidtke enjoys spending time outdoors, hiking, and camping. Dr. Schmidtke also enjoys woodworking and learning to play the accordion and piano.
Dr. Brenna Roth
From the moment she took her first step toward a standard poodle at age one, animals have been important in the life of Brenna Roth, DVM. Growing up she cared for hamsters, dogs, cats, fish and rode American Saddlebred horses. Raised in Louisville and a graduate of Ballard High School, Dr. Roth went to Western Kentucky University for pre-vet and graduated from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2001. She returned to Louisville in 2003 to work for Dixie Animal Hospital. She continues her career at Goshen Animal Clinic. In her free time, Dr. Roth raises her two sons, rides horses, and cares for her two dogs and two cats. She is an avid hummingbird and Monarch butterfly enthusiast. Her sons, Caleb and Devin, are the loves of her life. They are animal lovers like their mom.
Dr. Brian Proffitt
Born and raised in Kentucky, Dr. Proffitt chose to attend the University of Kentucky for his undergraduate studies. He graduated from Auburn College of Veterinary Medicine and returned to this area to begin his own practice. Dr. Proffitt partnered with Dr. Karen Hagan in 1998 to purchase Goshen Animal Clinic and became full owner in 2019. Dr. Proffitt and his staff continue the tradition of quality veterinary care in the area today. He is passionate about providing superior medical care for pets and outstanding customer care for their families’. Dr. Proffitt has had advanced training in veterinary orthopedics and ultrasound, that compliment his progressive approach to patient care. Dr. Proffitt is also a husband, father, and active member of the community. He has Weimaraner named Shelby but has personal experience with pets of all sizes, breeds and species.
Dr. Karen Hagan
Dr. Karen Hagan is a graduate of the University of Kentucky and Auburn College of Veterinary Medicine. She partnered with Dr. Brian Proffitt to purchase Goshen Animal Clinic in 1998. Since that time Dr. Hagan has provided this area with superior veterinary medical care and customer service. She takes a detailed, diagnostic approach to veterinary medicine and passes along the knowledge gained, to her clients. Dr. Hagan belongs to Roadie, Priscilla and Monte (all cats), who live with her. Dr. Hagan’s interests include art, music and spending time with friends.
